Kyra Phelps
Biography
Kyra began her figure skating journey in the Syracuse area at the age of 6 years old. What started as group Learn To Skate classes quickly developed into private lessons when Kyra's Mom saw the joy skating brought her. Over the past 16 years figure skating has become one of Kyra's greatest passions. When planning her secondary education, Kyra knew that figure skating still needed to be a part of her life. Her academic and figure skating goals led her to Penn State for her undergraduate degree.
During her 4 years at Penn State, Kyra continued her competitive career as a member of The Pennsylvania State University Figure Skating Competition Team. While on the collegiate team, she served on the executive board as THON Chair and Vice President. Kyra remained very active in the figure skating program at Penn State. She served the figure skating community as a Private Lesson Coach to members of the Nittany Valley FSC, and a Group Lesson Coach to the Pegula Ice Arena Learn To Skate program.
Outside of figure skating, Kyra was proudly involved in THON and the Penn State Dairy Science Club. THON is the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Annual fundraising efforts for pediatric cancer culminate in a 46-hour, no sitting or sleeping dance marathon. Kyra completed this marathon while representing the Figure Skating Team in 2020.
